Sojourns
Identifying, cultivating and advancing the next generation of palliative care leaders.
The program seeks to include physicians, nurses, social workers, physician assistants, chaplains, psychologists, pharmacists and other emerging health system leaders by investing in their professional development. Each Sojourns Scholar receives $180,000 in funding ($90,000 per year over a two-year grant) to carry out an innovative and impactful project in the field of palliative care and execute a leadership development plan designed to support the individual's growth as a national leader in the field.
The 2023 cohort is the 10th and final cohort of the Sojourns Scholar Leadership Program. In 2014, we embarked on a journey to improve the care of people with serious illness and their loved ones. We committed to invest in up to 12 emerging leaders over 10 years. Since the program's inception, the Foundation Board has approved total grant funding of $19M in support of 108 emerging palliative care leaders nationwide.
We are extending our investment in the existing network of scholars through 2030, reflecting our confidence in the incredible work of Sojourns Scholars and the collective impact of this network. As we look to the future, we're excited to foster a sustainable community of practice that promotes knowledge-sharing, collaboration and innovation.
